'Velvet Motor Oil harks back to the golden era of industrial graphic design when brand and message were both practical and aesthetically brilliant. Motor related graphics and branding from the turn of the century until the early 80’s were, for the most part, honest, considered and unintentionally beautiful. Velvet Motor Oil is a perfect example of this..the branding was largely unaltered for most of the companies existence since the 1930s and this drawing is part of a series of objects that one would find lying around in a garage or workshop, unloved and unappreciated from a design perspective. The unfinished technical sketchup style invites the viewer to fill in the gaps and imagine the object in its totality.'
